This page is a record of many of the shows & exhibitions we attended in 2009
The page was added to as we progressed through the year so to read it in correct date order, please start at the bottom & work your way back to here...
The last two shows of the year were Merstham (3rd October) & Brandon (24th October).

26th &27th September 2009 - Elsecar show
Another weekend of Garratt fun, drivers included Chris Moody, Ted Burge, Phil Thomson, Mick Brown, Max Hampson & the ledgenary John Brittian

Here we have Ted & Phil talking over matters in the foreground, with Mick & John B at the rear of the layout.
The new 'Loco-Boxes' stand is in the right of the photo.
12th & 13th September 2009 - The Garratt Gathering at the Moors Valley Railway.
Two days of live steam Garratts! We had the 16mm versions & the Moors Valley had a number of visiting 7 1/4 gauge examples as well as their own 'William Rufus'. The operators on 'Ttarrag Shed' included Chris Moody, Eddie Bull, Julian Smith & John Sowerby.
Here we see Eddie Bull gassing up 'Christina'. a Garratt that was bought by Eileen Moody from Peter Angus. This Garratt is one of the first, if not the first one to be built by Peter. At 18 years old, she performs beautifully! Ed is a confirmed gas firer & is often to be seen with his hands on 'Christina'... Many of you will know Ed, he's won many awards for his models in 16mm scale & has been a stalwart of the 16mm GO&OA since the start. Ed's our resident technical expert & should we have a failure, he's the man you want by your side!
17th August 2009- we're just back from taking 'Ttarrag Shed' to Manchester for the 'Garratt 100' celebrations!

In the photo we can see Bob Kirchner with Mick Brown in the distance tending to Micks NGG16 with John 'clagger' Sowerby (making surprisingly little smoke,,,) in the foreground with his new NGG16, No87.
Nigel Town (the 16mm Assoc chairman) is behind John with his own beautifully detailed NGG16.
All these loco's are coal fired & have been built by John Brittain.

Julian Smith checks for heat on a pot boilered, Salem Garratt. This loco takes a little while to warm through, but once up to pressure, will run for a long time. Julian has enhanced the loco with a boiler filling valve to squeeze a little longer out of the running time.
Watching the loco run slowly around the layout was a treat - certainly man & machine were one...

Nigel & John coupling up for some bunker to bunker, double heading - John is never far away from a positioning move like this, later on in the day he was responsible for 'cutting in' an NGG16 in the middle of a train of 14 DZ wagons. John took the front NGG16 & Julian the middle one. Snaking around 4'6" radius curves, the lads held the regulators steady & pulled it off - hats off to all concerned!!
The event was a great success for the MOSI museum in Manchester & thanks must go to Eddie Bull, John Sowerby, Julian Smith, Bob Kirchner, Max Hampson, Nigel Town, Phil Thompson, Mick Brown & Ted Burge - all who put in some spirited running & without them, 'Ttarrag Shed' wouldn't have run so smoothly!!
